"Goth" Directories

Disclaimer (because this is an academic web site - even though it's gone "dot.com" - and is related to some courses I teach): much contemporary horror-related material is to be found on "goth" Web sites, those graphics-intensive, black-backgrounded pages put on the Web by folks for whom "gothic" is a way of life, not just a type of literature. It's rather easy, once you start exploring links on these pages, to encounter material put on the Web by and for people with, shall we say, "alternative" approaches to religion, spirituality, sexuality, and lifestyle. If you are likely to be offended by such material, proceed no further; if you are a parent or in some other way share lifespace with children or others for whom you believe such material may be inappropriate, be circumspect.

The following brief list is intended only to be a jumping-off point for people interested in contemporary horror; I'm not interested in expanding it. Clicking the links below will take you completely out of The Literary Gothic, for symbolically appropriate reasons....

Dark Side of the Net. Comprehensive and well-organized directory; if it's goth and on the web, it's probably listed here. The best "goth" directory I've seen. [Carrie Carolin]

Gothic.Net A graphically cool (and frequently changing) portal to the goth world. [Darren McKeeman]

The Shadowlands. Devoted to "real-life" (real-death?) ghosts and other "unsolved mysteries." [Dave Juliano]

Gothic Literature
Lists some books that should be interest to people who want to learn about "Goth" culture, or who want to be "Goth." Just don't ask me...

La Bibliothèque du Cénacle
While a lot of material here is in French, this could still prove a useful website. If you're a wannabe French Goth, it's a must-visit.
