Bürger, Göttfried August

1 Jan 1748 - 8 June 1794

A German poet and minor political figure, Bürger was famous for his highly energetic and Romantically charged poems (as well as for a rather dissipated life). His ballads, with their verve and their supernaturalism, helped created the "Germanism" that fueled much Gothic fiction.
